Update on ease of Government restrictions on funeral services, as of Monday 6th September

Numbers attending funerals

From Monday 6th September 2021, all funeral venues (including churches, crematoria and other venues) can accommodate 50% of their usual capacity – this will, obviously, vary depending on the venue and our funeral directors will confirm exact capacities with the venues.

Reposings/Wakes

The 50% capacity rule also applies to funeral homes/chapels of repose. However, the Irish Association of Funeral Directors is advising its members to take a cautious approach to the re-introduction of public wakes at their premises. From a practical point of view, it may be difficult to manage the numbers attending a funeral home and to prevent an unsafe situation from developing. Families should consider continuing with private reposings for family only or by family invitation instead.

The following safety guidelines should continue to be followed;

  • Mask-wearing in all indoor settings
  • Physical distancing
  • No hand-shaking
  • No condolence books
  • Provision of hand sanitiser
  • Use of directional and safety signage
  • One-way systems in funeral homes where possible
  • Regular hand-washing, coughing & sneezing etiquette and surface sanitising

Mary Cunniffe on The Let’s Get Social Show Podcast

Please see the link below for Mary Cunniffe’s engaging interview on the Let’s get Social radio show on 93.9FM last week. It’s about how Funeral Directors approach their jobs using social media all based around a good chat about the business.

About the Episode:

Having a good online presence is key, especially when it comes to being found locally and beyond. One industry that has made strides with this is the funeral industry, which has embraced the importance of having well-designed websites and active social media channels.

In this episode, we chat with Mary Cunniffe former President of The Irish Association of Funeral Directors and now Branch Manager of Massey Brothers Funeral Directors, and Colm Kiernan who is Funeral Care and Communications Consultant at Funeral Director Solutions Ireland’s Specialist Web Design and Digital Marketing Service for Funeral Directors. He is also General Manager at Kieran Brothers Funeral Care and has been Public Relations Officer for The Irish Association of Funeral Directors.

If you are intrigued as to how this traditional industry is changing with the times tune in.

Finglas Memories – Through our eyes – The Local News

Finglas Man Tom Bruen started Finglas Memories Facebook page in 2017. A Finglas man now living with his family in Australia, set up the page to encourage Finglas people to record their memories, share photos and relive their childhood. Indeed a successful by-product of the page has been its ability to reconnect old friends, lovers and even relations. Earlier this year Tom set about putting as many of these memories in a book which has been released just a short while ago.

The book has become like gold dust, with probably Massey Bros Funeral Home being the only place I could get a copy. It is a wonderful collection of memories with an introduction by Brendan O’Carroll, entries by famous footballer Ronnie Whelan, author George Fitzgerald, and Michael Doyle. But it is not about important people in our community. It is by and about locals from Finglas, some have left the area, many still live here, but all have great memories of growing up in Finglas throughout the years.

Traditions firmly rooted in the Family Tree – Massey Bros. in the Southside People

Massey Bros. Funeral Directors has long been established as one of Dublin’s leading family run companies. The roots of the business were firmly planted on Dublin’s Thomas Street in the heart of the Liberties by Cissy Massey Maguire and her brothers, in the 1930’s. She was a formidable, strong lady who pushed the boundaries for women in business, long before her time.

Update on ease of Government restrictions on funeral services

Update on ease of Government restrictions on funeral services, as of Monday 10th May.

  • Unfortunately, it is still not possible to have a large funeral as we still navigate the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. We understand how difficult this is for you the families we serve but the safety of everyone is our priority. We must play our part in the strict adherence to these instructions.
  • Only immediate family and close friends should attend the funeral.
  • No more than 50 people are permitted to attend the funeral service or be present at the graveside. Numbers allowed in Crematoria vary, your Funeral Arranger will be able to advise on exact numbers.
  • The numbers who may attend gatherings in our funeral homes is limited at this time. Again, your Funeral Arranger can advise you on the numbers as it depends on the size of the funeral home.
  • Face masks must be worn when entering our funeral homes. It is also recommended that they are worn in churches and crematoriums. When visiting our funeral homes for your safety, we ask that you provide your contact details for the benefit of track and trace.
  • Those in attendance will also need to follow social distancing guidelines. This means all funeral attendees must keep a distance of 2 metres apart.
  • Physical interactions including shaking hands and hugging must be avoided.
  • Those who are self-isolating or need to restrict their movements can not attend funerals.
  • Many of our churches have implemented streaming services so that family and friends can view the service from home. Please ask your Funeral arranger for details.
  • We encourage the wider family and friends of loved ones who have passed, to leave a message of condolence on our website www.masseybros/funeral-notices/

It is essential for the safety of everyone that we act wisely and adhere to these clear instructions from our Government.

From us all at Massey Bros we would like to sincerely thank you for your co-operation during these difficult times. #Staysafe
